Title: Pawlak’s Conflict Model: Directions of Development

Abstract

The article provides an overview of different approaches to the methods of conflict analysis that are inspired by the model of Professor Zdzisław Pawlak. In the first part of the paper, Professor Pawlak’s original model is described. In the second part, the model proposed by Professor Skowron and Doctor Deja is discussed. In the third part, the model proposed by the authors is presented.

Short Bios

Alicja Wakulicz-Deja, B.Eng., Ph.D., D.Sc., Prof. is an employee of the University of Silesia, the founder and long-standing Director of the Institute of Computer Science.

Scientific activity of Prof. Alicja Wakulicz-Deja was initially associated with information systems. She received the post-doctoral degree in 1992 in the Institute of Computer Science of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw with thesis entitled ,,Fundamentals of Retrieval Information Systems''. In the next period the main scientific achievements are related to issues of decision support systems. In 2002, she becomes titular professor in the field of computer science. Prof. Alicja Wakulicz-Deja authored 25 monographs, over 35 chapters in monographs and over 200 papers in scientific journals. She was director of several research projects, supervisor of a few doctoral dissertations and reviewer of many doctoral and habilitation theses.

Prof. Alicja Wakulicz-Deja is a member of many commissions and scientific committees, an expert at the National Science Centre, a member of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Computer Science of the Polish Academy of Sciences, a member of the Committee on Informatics of the Polish Academy of Sciences, a long-standing member of the Committee on Organization and Management Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences, a member of numerous program committees of international conferences. Prof. Alicja Wakulicz-Deja is an academic teacher and supervisor of about 400 master's theses.

Małgorzata Przybyła-Kasperek is an Assistant Professor of the Faculty of Computer Science and Materials Science at the University of Silesia. She received a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Institute of Computer Science at the University of Silesia and a M.Sc. in Mathematics from the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry at the University of Silesia. She has served on the Program Committee for FedCSIS 2016, ICCCI 2016 and FedCSIS 2015. She has published over 30 articles in the past 7 years. She has reviewed the articles for Information Sciences, Hacettepe Journal of Mathematics and Statistics, Transactions on Cybernetics, International Journal of Information Technology & Decision Making Knowledge and Information Systems. The focus of her research is data mining, decision support systems and expert systems. Her studies are especially related to making decision based on dispersed knowledge and methods of conflict analysis.
